A 26-year-old man accused of shooting a Prince Albert landlord during a tenant eviction is now facing a first-degree murder charge. Prince Albert police say Preston Bird has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jim Primeau. Bird was originally charged with aggravated assault, breaching a conditional sentence order and several firearms offences following the June 4, 2025 shooting. Police responded to a weapons complaint in the 1900 block of 14th Street West that evening and found Primeau suffering from a gunshot wound. Primeau was shot in the throat while attempting to evict a tenant from a rental property. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and died on March 18, 2026. Police arrested Bird on July 23, 2025, and previously said the accused and victim were believed to know each other. Bird appeared in Court of King’s Bench in Prince Albert on Sept. 17 and was remanded into custody on the first-degree murder charge.
