The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is losing two walk-in clinics by the end of the year. One is on Baker Drive in Dartmouth and the other is on Spring Garden Road in the heart of downtown Halifax. The doctors serving those locations are moving to other locations within the HRM. Still, with the number of emergency room visits on the rise, Nova Scotia Health Minister Michelle Thompson said she isn’t worried about the closure of the walk-in clinic clinics, adding to the problem because of other options available for people seeking treatment. “We have, I think, 80,000 additional pharmacare appointments every month, and so some of those are virtual,” Thompson says. “So, if you are attached, you can have two free virtual care appointments and if they feel you need to be seen, and there are other options for you. There are the pharmacy clinics, urgent treatment centers, there are a variety of different places.” The Dartmouth clinic will close at the end of November.
