A 28-year-old man has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that destroyed a church in Meadow Lake last month. Saskatchewan RCMP say 28-year-old Gavin Burnouf from Meadow Lake was arrested on Nov. 2 following a month-long investigation. At around 2 a.m. on Oct. 1 officers along with fire department and EMS responded to a report of a fire at a church on 2nd Street East in Meadow Lake. No one was injured, but the church was destroyed. The fire was initially considered suspicious and investigators from the North Battleford Serious Crimes Unit and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency continued with the investigation. RCMP say the investigation has found no indication the fire was motivated by ideology. Burnouf appeared in Meadow Lake provincial court on Thursday.
