Following close to 24 hours of widespread outages, SaskTel says most phone, wireless and internet services have been restored in affected Saskatchewan communities. The outage began Thursday morning, impacting internet, television, home phone and cellular services in several areas of the province. In an update Friday morning, the Crown corporation said crews worked through the night to restore services. SaskTel says landline, home and business phone services have largely been restored. Wireless and internet services have also returned in most locations, but remain unavailable in Allan, Aberdeen and parts of Saskatoon. SaskTel initially reported around 10:30 a.m. Thursday that Saskatoon and surrounding areas were affected. The outage later expanded to Prince Albert, North Battleford, Melfort, La Loche, Allan, Clavet, Colonsay, Drake, Lanigan, Young, Aberdeen and Moon Lake. Friday’s SaskAlert update lists eastern Saskatoon, Allan, Clavet, Colonsay, Drake, Lanigan, Young, Aberdeen and Moon Lake as affected areas. SaskTel says the outage was caused by a fibre being cut. With landline and wireless services restored in many locations, customers in most affected areas can once again use SaskTel services to call 911. Those who remain without service are being asked to use another provider, where available, or physically contact emergency services for assistance.
