Two charged after stolen SUV sparks fiery Idylwyld crash

A serious crash in Saskatoon shut down part of Idylwyld Drive on the north end of the city after a vehicle fled police on Tuesday. Carla Shynkaruk has more.

A 14-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man have been charged in connection with a crash involving a stolen vehicle in Saskatoon’s north end Tuesday morning.

Police say both are charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

The teen is also facing charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failure to stop after an accident and evading police. The 24-year-old has also been charged with breaching court imposed conditions.

Police say a third person was arrested in connection with the incident but was not charged.

The crash happened shortly after 8 a.m., sending an 82-year-old man to hospital. Police say he remains in hospital but no further details were provided.

Police were called to the area of Idylwyld Drive near 58th Street West after receiving reports of a Dodge Durango driving erratically.

Police say the vehicle was travelling on Highway 11 into Saskatoon when it collided with a Ford Transit van south of the Highway 16 overpass on Idylwyld Drive. The van caught fire and its driver was taken to hospital with critical injuries.
