After climbing to their highest level since the price spikes of summer 2022, Windsor drivers may catch a bit of a break Thursday. Gas prices in the city jumped another seven cents overnight Wednesday, pushing regular up to an average of 194.9 cents per litre -- but Gas Price Wizard is forecasting a six-cent drop by Thursday. That would bring prices back into the high-180s. Still expensive but for drivers filling up often, like Shaan Sajjad, every cent matters. “I’m a driving instructor,” he told CTV News. “These days I am paying almost an extra $500 a month.” Sajjad says fuel is part of the job -- and he’s not passing those costs on to customers. “I’m losing every month. Sometimes as much as $700.” Windsor’s latest spike comes as oil markets remain volatile, with global supply concerns tied to ongoing tensions around the Strait of Hormuz -- one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. Medex Courier Service owner James Fleming says his drivers are constantly on the road across southern Ontario, making fuel one of the company’s biggest expenses. “I’ve never seen it like this… it’s crazy,” he said. “It’s killing us.” Fleming says if prices stay elevated, some of that cost will eventually have to be passed on to customers. “We’re going to have to adjust accordingly. It’ll be week by week and day by day.” And for everyday drivers, higher gas prices can mean trimming spending elsewhere. University student Tamjeed Nawaz says he’s already making adjustments. “Spending less on going out, stuff like that,” he said. “It would be nice if we had better public transportation options that we could use, but we don’t.” Whether the expected overnight drop sticks may depend on what happens overseas.
