Saskatchewan RCMP and the Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) are working to locate RCMP equipment stolen from a Prince Albert hotel room. Mounties say an officer returned to their hotel room shortly after midnight Sept. 2 only to find their equipment had been stolen. According to a media release, the officer then notified PAPS of the theft. An investigation has found three men and one woman broke into the hotel on 38th Street West. The room was empty at the time of the theft. The thieves stolen an RCMP service pistol, several pistol magazines, a baton, pepper spray, a grey RCMP shirt and other personal items, according to the release. None of the aforementioned items have been recovered as of Wednesday afternoon. The suspects also stole a conducted energy device (CED,) police duty jacket, vest, body-worn camera and radio - but a search of the area recovered these items. A man was arrested later that morning in Prince Albert. The PAPS continues to investigate, and locate the remaining stolen items. “Police equipment is for police use, and we work to keep it safe and secure,” RCMP said in the release. RCMP say the officer stored the equipment securely, before the suspects illegally broke in and stole the equipment. The pistol, CED, cartridges, baton and spray were in a locked box. The RCMP adds it’s illegal to impersonate a police officer, and if you notice anything concerning or ‘off’ during an encounter with police, call your local police service or Crime Stoppers. “We are disclosing this as part of our commitment to transparency and will continue to work with the Prince Albert Police Service on their ongoing investigation,” the release added. Anyone with information on the theft is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
