A four-alarm blaze at an Etobicoke waste transfer station is now under control but crews expect to remain on scene for at least the next 24 hours. The call came at around 3:45 a.m. for a fire at the 50,000-square foot facility, located on Disco Road, near Carlingview Drive. Toronto Fire Commander John Carson said crews arrived to find heavy smoke and a “deep-seated” fire in the building after construction material ignited. He said in order to bring the fire under control, crews cut a hole in the roof to pour water directly on the flames. “These types of fires typically burn deep into the materials,” he told reporters at the scene on Tuesday morning. “We are going to be here all day.” No injuries have been reported and it is unclear if anyone was inside the building when the fire started. This is the second time in the past year that crews have been called in to contain a massive fire at the facility. In October, as many as 100 firefighters, along with 19 or 20 trucks, responded to a blaze at the facility. The cause of Tuesday’s fire is under investigation. “We have nothing suspicious at this time,” Carson said. “We’ll be investigating.”
