A male e-scooter rider is dead following a collision with a minivan near Tommy Thompson Park in the city’s Port Lands on Wednesday night. Toronto police said they got a call for the collision in the area of Leslie Street and Unwin Avenue at 7:41 p.m. When emergency crews arrived, they located a male victim suffering from life-threatening injuries, police said. He was rushed to a trauma centre, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released. The driver of the minivan remained at the scene. Duty Insp. Dan Pravica said it is Toronto’s 30th traffic fatality of the year. The cause of the collision is unknown. Pravica told reporters that the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time. “I don’t want to speculate on exactly how the accident occurred. That will be determined by our officers from Traffic Services,” he said. “We are looking at collecting all the evidence. There were numerous witnesses nearby. Officers would be getting statements from them, collecting dashcam video and other video.” Pravica urged anyone with information to contact Traffic Services at 416-808-1900.
