A yellow warning for severe thunderstorms has ended, but a special weather statement remains in effect for Toronto and the rest of the GTA. Environment Canada issued the warning early Saturday evening as meteorologists tracked a storm moving east at 50 km/h. The federal agency said radar and weather station data suggested 25 to 40 millimetres of rain had fallen as the storm passed through. The yellow warning ended just after 7:15 p.m. Rain has been falling throughout much of the day in the region. The weather has led to a delay at Rogers Stadium, where popular K-pop group BTS is set to perform in front of a sold-out crowd. In a post on Instagram, the venue urged fans who are in the stands to proceed to the Fan Plaza. “We are monitoring conditions and updates will be shared as soon as possible,” the post read. Fans filed into the stadium carrying umbrellas and wearing plastic ponchos. According to the special weather statement, the GTA could see rainfall rates of up to 40 millimetres in an hour between Saturday and Sunday morning. “Given the potential for slow-moving showers and thunderstorms and for some areas to receive multiple rounds of precipitation, local amounts exceeding 50 millimetres are possible,” the federal agency said in its advisory. It noted that these areas could see rainfall rates of up to 40 millimetres in an hour. Environment Canada said rainfall amounts will vary across the region. “There remains considerable uncertainty as to exactly which areas will receive the highest rainfall amounts,” the federal agency said. “Additional showers are expected through Sunday, especially to the east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay and over northeastern Ontario.” Rainy conditions are expected to persist on Sunday with a daytime high of 21 C in Toronto. Tens of thousands are also expected to attend BTS’s concerts at Rogers Stadium tonight and on Sunday as part of their “ARIRANG” tour. It is the group’s only Canadian stop. This weekend is considered one of the busiest this summer, as multiple events, festivals, and concerts are being held, including the Canadian National Exhibition.
