Angela Bolus says her “happiness is gone” following the fatal shooting of her eldest son— a pain further exacerbated by the fact that one of the suspects in his murder is still on the loose. On July 16, just before 9 p.m., Niagara police said Mitchell Snoddon was at his home on Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls when a man and a woman entered the dwelling and shot him with a handgun. The 35-year-old St. Catharines native was rushed to the hospital, where he later died. No firearm was recovered at the scene of the shooting, which police have described as targeted. Investigators have released few other details about what occurred and why. Suspects evaded police for weeks For weeks, the two suspects—23-year-old Maaroof Bangi and 30-year-old Josta Grace MacNeal—evaded police, driving different vehicles in Ontario and Quebec and changing their appearance, according to investigators. MacNeal was arrested in Montreal on Aug. 27 and is now facing one count of second-degree murder. Bangi, however, remains outstanding and police say he should be considered armed and dangerous. He’s wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder. Bangi is described as about five-foot-six and has a skinny build and dark skin. He was last seen wearing a T-shirt, dark pants, shoes, sunglasses, and a red bandana. Death has ‘shattered our whole family’: mom Bolus said the last two months have been a living nightmare for her and her family, especially for her son’s young daughters. “Mitch’s death has shattered our whole family … I can’t believe he’s gone. That was not the plan,” she said. “He was really in his (two oldest) kids’ lives. They were the centre of his world, and (his murder) has destroyed them.” Funds are now being raised to support Snoddon’s daughters with their future needs. Bolus said Mitch was also deeply involved in her life, calling her every day just to check in. Bolus said as business owners, they often supported one another. Snoddon was an accomplished tattoo artist and muralist while she runs a restaurant and food truck with her husband. “Mitch was the best, and my life is basically over now,” said Bolus. Bolus said that she will remember he son as a selfless person who gave his time and money to the less fortunate. She said that her son was also a “die-hard” Maple Leafs fans and they often watched games together. “I don’t even think I’m going to watch hockey anymore,” said Bolus. “It’s too painful. I’m taking a break this year.” Investigation ongoing As for the investigation into her son’s death, Bolus said that someone knows what happened to him and is appealing to those people to do the right thing and contact authorities. “He must be out of money. Somebody’s gotta be helping him,” Bolus said of the outstanding suspect. In a statement to CP24, Const. Jessica Martin, of Niagara Regional Police Service, said “detectives are still searching for the outstanding suspect” but don’t have any updates to provide at this time. “If Maaroof Bangi is observed, we are asking members of the public to call 911 immediately and not to approach,” she added.
