BC Ferries has cancelled several sailings between Nanaimo and Vancouver due to a main engine issue, throwing a wrench into thousands of passengers’ travel plans. The ferry service explained that the Queen of Cowichan will be out of service for the remainder of Monday and much of Tuesday, with eight Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay sailings cancelled and at least another four at risk. “Our engineering team continues to investigate the issue with repairs expected to start tomorrow morning,” reads a service notice from B.C. Ferries, noting the issue lies in the main engine’s turbocharger. “Should more time be required to complete this repair, other sailings are at risk of cancellation.” Queen of Oak Bay sailings between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay are expected to proceed as scheduled, B.C. Ferries adds. On Friday and Saturday, some sailings between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale were delayed and cancelled as the Queen of Surrey and Queen of Coquitlam faced mechanical difficulties of their own. The ferry service has pointed those with reservations impacted by cancellations to its website to find the company’s compensation policy, which outlines that “normal response time to investigate and respond to requests for compensation, fare inquiries and travel-related matters is between seven to 14 days.”
