BC Parks is making their day-use reservation system more secure, in an attempt to reduce interference from digital bots. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 22, users will be required to create an account on the BC Parks website, and verify their identity. The Environment Ministry said in a release on Tuesday that the changes are intended to make sure passes are distributed fairly when demand is high. A post from BC Parks on social media added that the updated system helps ensure “passes are reserved by real people.” Day-use passes are required at four popular parks in peak season: Golden Ears, Joffre Lakes, Garibaldi and Mount Seymour. The program first came into effect in 2020, in order to reduce crowding during the covid-19 pandemic and minimize impacts on the environment. Officials say the passes also help prevent congestion on roads and in parking lots. People are being encouraged to make an account using their B.C. services card, although it can also be created with just an email and password. Reservations can be made up to two days in advance of a visit, starting at 7 a.m.
