CTV News Vancouver has been awarded one of the most prestigious prizes in B.C. journalism. Our very own Regan Hasegawa has won the Jack Webster Award for the best news reporting of the year for her series “Lost in Translation: The Death of Chase De Balinhard.” Hasegawa’s investigation was honoured in the television and video reporting category at a ceremony Monday night. Chase was a 15-year-old boy who lived with autism and ADHD. He was shot and killed by police in Surrey in February 2025. An investigation concluded the use of lethal force was justified, but also found the officers had no formal training on dealing with people who have autism. Hasegawa’s multi-part investigative series pieces together what really happened that day, through emotional family interviews, eyewitness accounts and official scrutiny.
