Winnipeg police are urging parents to check their kids’ Halloween candy hauls tonight after receiving two separate reports of chocolates embedded with straight pins. Police said the reports came from the Garden City area on Sinclair Street and the Royalwood area on High Ridge Road. “These are where the reports originated from. That doesn’t mean that’s the street where this incident happened,” said Const. Dani McKinnon. “If you can retrace your pathway as a family and think if you live in that area to be very cautious of the candy.” One of the impacted chocolates was a mini Twix bar, while the other was a KitKat. Police are asking Winnipeggers to inspect all Halloween candy before their kids eat any. “Really encouraging parents, guardians, caregivers to still check the bags, even if your kids are older.” McKinnon noted candy is getting smaller, making it easier for kids to eat it in one bite. “So still break them in half, tear it open and better to be safe than sorry.” McKinnon said no one was injured in either incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the WPS non-emergency line at 204-986-6222.
