A 45-year-old man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the case of the 2023 slaying of Surrey resident Robb Memory. Paul John Martin was convicted last week in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster, following a trial that began in March, according to a statement from the Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. The conviction comes with an automatic life sentence, but the trial judge must determine when to set parole eligibility. Martin’s next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, for the purpose of scheduling a sentencing hearing, IHIT said. Memory was found deceased at a home near 191 Street and 68 Avenue on Aug. 27, 2023, according to IHIT. His injuries were “consistent with homicide,” police said, though they still have not specified how he was killed. Martin was arrested less than a week later, on Sept. 1, 2023. IHIT said he has been in custody ever since. “The guilty verdict was the result of collaborative efforts between IHIT and our policing partners, and the work of Crown counsel at B.C. Prosecution Service,” said Sgt. Freda Fong, in the statement. “As we await sentencing, our thoughts are with Mr. Memory’s family and those who were impacted by this tragic incident.”
