Search and rescue volunteers in West Kelowna say their search for a missing kayaker was called off after a few hours Friday night. Central Okanagan Search and Rescue said in a social media post that it was tasked with looking for “a missing young male” after an overturned kayak was found on Okanagan Lake around 8 p.m. West Kelowna RCMP and other first responders were also notified and arrived at the scene within minutes, according to COSAR. “We were stood down at 10:30 p.m.,” the post reads, adding that more details would be provided by Mounties. CTV News has reached out to West Kelowna RCMP, and this story will be updated if a response is received. COSAR said this is the second time in a week that its volunteers have been tasked to look for a missing young male. Castanet described Friday’s incident as a “possible drowning,” saying unconfirmed social media posts had reported a drowning off the shore of the Westbank First Nation Beach on Boucherie Road.
