Stolen and vandalised speed signs spark police investigation

Vancouver Island police are investigating after roadside speed signs have been targeted in a wave of theft and vandalism.

The Saanich Police Department announced Thursday morning they are investigating incidents targeting speed reduction signs on Torquay Drive.

Police say between April 29 and July 13 of this year they have recorded 10 separate cases of either damaged or stolen signs.

The incidents took place in the 4200, 4300 and 4400 blocks of Torquay Drive, according to Saanich police.

Images shared by the south island police department show signs spray-painted to hide the posted speed limit, and another sign knocked to the ground.

Police are asking anyone with information on the months of vandalism and theft to contact investigators.
