A major funding boost is helping expand support for seniors across Windsor-Essex. MPP Anthony Leardi is celebrating a $600,000 grow grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), awarded to the Community Support Centre of Essex County in Lakeshore, Ont. The funding supports the growth of the Windsor-Essex Compassion Care Community Program, which connects trained volunteers with seniors to assess their social, mental, and physical wellbeing set goals and build stronger support networks. Delivered in partnership with the Windsor-Essex Community Housing Corporation, the initiative aims to reduce isolation, improve quality of life, and help seniors stay connected in their communities. Fabio Costante is the CEO of Windsor-Essex Community Housing Corporation. Costante is appreciative of the vital government’s support for this demographic of the community, “It’s meeting our seniors, residents where they’re at, literally where they’re at in their in their, in the places that they live in, in the buildings that they occupy - but also emotionally, mentally, where they’re at, in, in their chapter of their lives.” OTF is an agency of the provincial government whose mandate is to build healthy communities across the province. In 2025, OTF invested approximately $105 million into 732 community projects that were designed to enhance wellbeing, foster more active lifestyles, support youth initiatives and provide spaces for communities to come together.
