A Belle River couple is expressing gratitude for the care Ronald McDonald House provided to their son as they serve as this year’s regional McHappy Day ambassadors. Amanda and Matt McGowan’s son, Dryden, required specialized care when he was born. The family stayed at the house within the hospital. To give back, their team raised more than $2,100 for the charity during the April 26 Big Red Shoe 5K run. That amount contributed to more than $21,000 raised for Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario, surpassing the $20,000 goal. “I think it’s a great organization,” Matt McGowan said. “As my wife has said, it keeps families close during the most important times, when we need to be there for our son.” Ronald McDonald House is a non-profit organization that provides a “home away from home” for families with critically ill or injured children receiving medical treatment nearby. The houses offer private accommodations, meals and support services to reduce emotional and financial burdens, allowing families to stay together during treatment and recovery.
