A five-figure donation from Caesars Windsor’s charity arm will help feed elders in need in the region through the Victoria Order of Nurses (VON) Windsor-Essex. On Thursday, the local VON chapter celebrated the $10,000 donation from Caesars Windsor Cares, which supported the Compassionate Meals program. “A simple meal can make a profound difference in someone’s life,” said Khrista Boon, the manager of Home & Community Care at VON Windsor-Essex, in a media release. “As VON celebrates Seniors Month throughout June, this gift is especially timely. Caesars Windsor Cares’ donation goes beyond food. It provides dignity, comfort, and reassurance to seniors who may be facing some of life’s most challenging moments.” The donation is expected to fund roughly 1,200 meals for vulnerable seniors across the city. The Compassionate Meals program is an initiative part of the VON Meals on Wheels program that aims to help seniors facing financial hardship or illness. Meals on Wheels is the well-known initiative which looks to support those unable to grocery shop or prepare meals through issues like age, disability, or recovery from surgery. Caesars Windsor Cares supports the program through an employee volunteer initiative that sees employees join Meals on Wheels drivers for deliveries. “We are proud to continue to work with organizations like VON to support initiatives to improve the health and wellness of seniors in our community,” said Susanne Tomkins, the manager of Public Relations and Communications at Caesars Windsor, in a statement. VON delivers hot and frozen meals five days a week, year-round, to help clients maintain health, independence, and community connection.
