For those living with dementia in our community support is getting a financial boost. Caesars Windsor has donated $15,000 to the Memory Café — an inclusive, welcoming space where people affected by Dementia can gather with care providers and caregivers. Susanne Tomkins, manager of public relations and communications with Caesars Windsor presented the monetary donation Wednesday at Paulin Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Memory Café helps reduce isolation, build connection, and create community through shared experiences. There are approximately 9,100 people living with some form of Dementia in Windsor-Essex. The numbers are expected to increase yearly. In most cases, there are currently no treatments that can reverse cognitive decline. However, there are approaches one can take to help manage symptoms and maintain your quality of life. Rosemary Fiss is the director of programs at the Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County. Fiss and her organization are grateful for the much need funds from Caesars Windsor and welcomes community engagement in all respects. “Having funding like this allows people to hear that they haven’t been forgotten,” said Fiss. “They’re not alone. We do have programs and services that we want to offer them to allow them that place of being involved.”
