The Ontario Provincial Police is investigating a weekend car fire involving a deer on Highway 401 through Chatham-Kent that saw a portion of the highway closed temporarily. On Saturday, OPP in Elgin County report an SUV and a deer collided in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Hetherington Rd., with officers responding to the scene around 8:40 a.m. The subsequent fire saw Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue also attend the scene. Officials report there were no human-related injuries and have not announced any charges. OPP encourages drivers to look further down the road to improve field of view and allow for quicker response times to wild animals that cross the roadway.
