Ahead of Friday’s Dancing with Easter Seals Stars competition, Ambassador Kam Seguin thanks supporters for helping ‘kids be kids.’ “Slogans can sometimes be cheesy,” explained Seguin. “But that slogan really is something that is happening in the lives of kids here in the community.” Easter Seals provides programs and services for children and youth with physical disabilities. Seguin was born with a stem cell disorder called Congenital issues and Neoplasia. “Where most peoples’ muscle tissue exists, its just fat in my body,” he details. “I don’t have much movement in my arms or legs, so I actually use my lips to use my phone.” Seguin says he takes the roll of ambassador seriously, representing others facing similar challenges. “Kids with physical disabilities, they have the same problems that normal kids do,” he explained. “We still get our hearts snapped by girls; we still have to worry about homework. It’s just we also have to worry about physical barriers like transportation.” Money raised from Dancing with the Easter Seals Stars will help fund specialized transportation and equipment like wheelchairs and stair lifts. But for many kids, summer camp is the highlight of their year. “It’s completely life changing,” said Seguin. “They make friends for life, and they never really forget it.” Activities at camp like swimming, archery and rock climbing at this specialized camp are 100 per cent accessible. “By donating, by buying a ticket, you are making a difference in a kid’s life,” said Seguin.
