The operators of an illegal psilocybin dispensary in downtown Windsor say they are shutting the storefront down immediately, after police allege crystal meth was seized during a raid late last week. In a phone interview with CTV News, a spokesperson for FunGuyz who identified himself only as David said ownership is “very, very upset.” “Because of what was found in there, we’ve made the decision to close that location now,” he said. “This is very, very out of hand.” Windsor Police Service say members of the Drugs and Guns Unit executed a search warrant at the dispensary, in the 300 block of Ouellette Avenue, shortly before 4 p.m. Friday. Police allege officers seized more than $13,000 worth of illegal drugs, including 9.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, LSD in multiple forms, psilocybin products and two DMT vape pens. A 35-year-old employee has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and trafficking in a controlled substance. Police said it was the ninth warrant executed at that location. FunGuyz ownership, however, claims the Windsor storefront has been raided 14 times since opening in July 2023. David said repeated police raids have made it difficult to retain staff and properly supervise the store, which he believes contributed to the alleged presence of methamphetamine. “Due to the store being raided so many times it’s really, really hard to get somebody that’s a decent employee,” he said. “The only people that actually come and work… let’s just say they’re not the greatest.” He said that across what he claims are more than 160 raids at FunGuyz locations nationwide, this is the first time meth has allegedly been found. “FunGuyz is all about health and helping people that are in need,” he said. “The last thing that we want is to be selling something that extreme that kills people.” From the street, the store appears closed Tuesday and David says it won’t reopen. The Windsor Police Service says the investigation remains ongoing.
