The proposed forensic research lab in Kingsville has been abandoned by both the town and the University of Windsor. “We don’t think this is going to be a good fit for our community,” said Dennis Rogers, Kingsville’s Mayor. According to Rogers, public outcry has left both sides unwilling to proceed with the taphonomy facility that would study how human bodies decompose to help law enforcement in investigations. “It has to be a win-win for everyone,” added Rogers. The town signed a memorandum of understanding last year with the University. It’s not clear what’s next for the future of the facility. “I know the researchers,” assured Rogers. “They’re going to explore other options and I think that’s a good decision.” The university sent a statement to CTV News on Tuesday. “We are confirming the research proposal will not be moving forward. The University of Windsor respects the Town of Kingsville’s decision and their engagement throughout the process. The University remains committed to advancing groundbreaking research, critical to innovation and discovery. We look forward to future opportunities for other research collaborations,” University officials said they are reviewing options for a different location.
