In the agreed statement of facts presented Monday, search warrants were granted to access the contents of electronic devices belonging to Glen Mayer, his wife Lillian, and others including Tony Bechara, whose phone could not be unlocked. Lillian Mayer’s phone showed exchanges between her and Bechara on Facebook Messenger shortly after 4:30 a.m. on January 20, 2024, which ended with Bechara saying “Goodnight beautiful.” with a rose and music note emojis. Just over a half hour later, Glen Mayer sent a note through his wife’s messenger saying, “Hey, it’s Glen, everyone loses today.” A minute later another message, “I will speed up your karma. You should know better.” The infotainment system on Mayer’s F-150 revealed his full route on the morning of January 20, 2024. That information was re-enforced by video obtained from various sources, including a couple of restaurants, a gas bar, and the Ministry of Transportation. Those videos were shown in court Monday. Mayer left his house shortly after 5:30 a.m. The Crown says Mayer had multiple conversations on the phone. He also shared a series of texts with people, including a friend who told him, “You’re f’ing scaring me.” The friend followed up with two texts, one saying, “lots of reasons to act rationally,” followed by “Way more actually, three little kids that need their dad. F the rest.” Video shows Mayer’s vehicle slowly rolling through the neighbourhood in the 700 block of Faleria Avenue in Lakeshore. At about 7:12 a.m., the driver door opened and closed four times before Mayer walked towards Bechara’s residence while his cell phone disconnected from the pickup. About three minutes later, a home down the street on Campana Crescent caught three sounds consistent with gunshots. A member of the gallery put an arm around a family member after the three sounds were heard in the courtroom. Another video shows Mayer on his way home shortly thereafter. He texted his employer he was going to miss work that day. Mayer also texted a friend twice saying, “Love you, pal. Going to jail,” followed by “Answer your phone before I turn myself in.” In the time following Bechara’s death, Mayer made eight phone calls and sent six texts to eight different people, including a screen grab of the messages between Bechara and Lillian Mayer to four people. The trial resumes Thursday.
