November is Fall Prevention Month and in response, the Windsor Regional Hospital is looking to help people prevent fall risks at home, in hospitals, and in the community. Windsor is invited to the Community Fall Prevention Fair, which will take place at both hospital campuses in a partnership with the Windsor-Essex County Fall Prevention Committee. Educational booths will be set up, giving visitors fall prevention information, safety tips, and opportunities to learn about community programs and services. The booth will be set up at the Met Campus on Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be at the Ouellette Campus from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the following day, on Nov. 18. “A fall can have a lasting impact on a person’s quality of life and independence,” said Amy Walsh, director of inpatient surgery. “At Windsor Regional Hospital, preventing falls is an essential part of helping patients recover safely and return home to their families. That commitment extends into our community, where every fall prevented helps people maintain their mobility, confidence, and independence.” WRH encourages everyone to take precautions to prevent falls, such as: If you are visiting the hospital, you are encouraged to ask for help when feeling weak, dizzy, or unsteady, use walking aids as directed, and report any safety hazards. If you are an outpatient, you are encouraged to tell staff when you are feeling unsteady, use a cane or walker, if you are fasting, or have previously fallen or fainted during a procedure.
