The Windsor Spitfires are losing one of their biggest offensive weapons at a tough time in the season. The team announced Wednesday forward Ethan Belchetz suffered a broken left clavicle and will be out indefinitely. The 6-foot-5 winger will require surgery, with the team saying he’ll start rehabilitation right away. “Ethan is an important part of our team both on and off the ice,” general manager Bill Bowler said in a statement. “While this is a tough setback, we know Ethan will attack the rehab process with the same commitment and professionalism he brings every day. Our entire organization is behind him.” Belchetz has been one of Windsor’s most dangerous scorers this season — and one of the top NHL draft prospects in the Ontario Hockey League. The draft-eligible forward leads the Spitfires with 34 goals and has added 25 assists for 59 points in 57 games. He sits third on the team in scoring overall. His strong season has also drawn attention from NHL scouts. Belchetz was ranked ninth among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s midterm rankings and is widely projected as a potential top 15 pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. With only a few weeks left in the regular season and the Spitfires pushing for a deep playoff run, the injury leaves a significant hole in Windsor’s lineup. The team says updates on Belchetz’s recovery will be provided “when appropriate.”
