Bright and early Thursday morning Windsor Goodfellows hit the streets collecting donations to help those in need this Christmas. Volunteers are scattered around Windsor, Tecumseh, and Lasalle. The annual paper drive runs from today until Saturday evening. The organization is celebrating 115 years while the paper drive itself is in its 111th year. The group has a fundraising goal of $375 thousand this year and are aiming to raise 45 per cent of their annual funds through the paper drive. The sales from the drive support community programs including food banks, children’s breakfast initiatives, school nutrition programs, lunch bags for the homeless and their Christmas dinner box. Apollos has been a Goodfellows volunteer for five years. He’s always happy to help where there is a need – and found that Windsorites in general, feel the same. “It’s been surprising this year, even though, you know, there might have been some economic trouble this year,” said Apollos. “There has been some pretty generous people giving five [dollar bills], 20s, some people getting the occasional the occasional 50. But most cases, you know, people give whatever they can.”
