A Windsor, Ont. native has been invited to Parliament Hill to present the details of her student-led initiative, ‘Green Club’. Sophia Boschin, a middle school teacher in Iqaluit, Nunavut, created the club to get students into the community as environmental leaders, working to keep waste out of Arctic waterways. “I just have always had a passion for the environment,” said Boschin. “I think the Earth is beautiful. I think we have an obligation to protect it in any way we can.” The program partners with the Nunavut Department of Environment, promoting recycling and waste reduction. Boschin is headed to Parliament Hill with some of her students to meet dignitaries and showcase what their club consists of. She hopes it will be a program with a lasting impact. “I’m hoping one day, these students will be in a position, maybe in Parliament, or in a position to help make those decisions for the community and the environment as a whole,” she said.
