Warning: Graphic content A 45-year-old man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the stabbing death of his pregnant wife in 2024 in an apartment in Montreal’s east end Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough. Mustapha Khalil Mechken was in court on Tuesday and is facing a life sentence after pleading guilty to killing Narjess Ben Yedder, 32, who was 10 weeks pregnant with the couple’s first child. The only question remains is when he will be eligible for parole. The court heard on Tuesday that Mechken had been searching the internet for information about sleep problems, depression, and trouble finishing tasks. He also Google searched “I don’t want to take care of my child” and what the prison term was for murder. According to the statement of facts read in court, just under three years ago, in January 2024, Yedder was asleep when Mechken stabbed her almost 50 times, then changed his clothes and called 911. He then asked if he would go to prison for life when arrested, according to the statement. The court will hear victim impact statements next week.
