The Saskatchewan RCMP has released more details about an investigation into the death of a 22-year-old Pelican Narrows man who died after being found by police with serious injuries on Oct. 29. Investigators now believe the 22-year-old was injured after a shootout with two teenagers – and they say he fired the first shot. In a news release, the RCMP says its homicide investigators have determined the 22-year-old approached two teenage youths just before 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 and fired a gun in their direction. One of the youths fired back, police say. Minutes later, the RCMP were called to a home where the 22-year-old man was found mortally wounded. The RCMP says one of the teens turned themselves in but was later released without charges, “following additional evidence gathering and investigation, which included reviewing video footage and consulting with Crown prosecutors.” Neither of the teens reported physical injuries, police say, and investigators are not seeking additional suspects. The RCMP says the investigation is still open, and anyone with information to report can call their local police or RCMP detachment.
