Windsor city staff are recommending city council not to go further with a study looking at converting some downtown one-way streets in Wards 3 and 4 back to two-way traffic. A report going to the Environment, Transportation and Public Safety Standing Committee on Wednesday indicates that after public engagement on 11 streets, none received majority support for conversion. The data indicates that 68 per cent of respondents opposed the idea overall, citing concerns about parking, safety, costs, and recent street upgrades that are already in place. The report says seven of the 11 streets saw majority opposition to the proposal. Those roads include Janette, Bruce, Dougall, Victoria, Pelissier, Lincoln, and Gladstone. City of Windsor Councillor Renaldo Agostino (Ward 3) believes that going through the process of consultation and debate works to get the best result for the community at large. “So, this is why we take our time,” said Agostino. “This is why we ask council questions. This is why we get reports on this, why we ask for public feedback because we want to do it right the first time and not have to circle back and change something and do it all over again.”
