The Windsor Symphony Orchestra (WSO) paid a visit to Southwood Public School Wednesday afternoon to perform a unique selection of iconic classical pieces. It was a chance for young people to experience a live music performance featuring woodwind and brass instruments in concert. The WSO’s “Education Tour” began on March 25 with a performance at General Brock Public School. The school performances are in partnership with the local school boards. The WSO’s hope is to provide exposure to classical music in the school setting to potentially enhance learning, creativity and interest in music and related arts. The orchestra is conducted by Maestro Geoffrey Larson. For Larson, engaging in and inspiring youth is a win-win venture for WSO and the students involved. “We can see the spark of inspiration in these kids’ faces,” said Larson. “And a lot of them are just picking up instruments for the first time. A lot of them will be joining our youth orchestras at Windsor Symphony in upcoming years. So, it’s a very exciting experience for all of us.” The tour continues until March 27 locally in Windsor-Essex.
