A family in Winnipeg’s Daniel McIntyre neighborhood is asking the public’s help trying to locate a wooden box containing their relative’s ashes after it was stolen by thieves. “There’s one thing we really care about; I don’t care about anything else, it was my sister’s ashes,” said Winnipeg resident Guy Lafleur. Lafleur tells CTV News he was helping his mother move items from one house to another including the urn that held his sister’s remains. Lafleur said his mother’s vehicle was locked and parked outside a relative’s house on Toronto Street late Friday night where the items were kept. By Saturday morning, Lafleur’s mother found the contents of their trunk and back seat were ransacked as clothing, tools and the wooden box were taken. He said the ashes were kept by his mother for 25 years in the family. “I just hope somebody who has it or knows just to bring it to a police station or something so we can get it back,” Lafleur said on Sunday. “It’s my little sister and it means a lot to me and my mom.” Lafleur said he is still unsure as to how thieves were able to break into the vehicle. He said the ashes were kept in a light-brown wooden shoe box size sealed container. He’s asking those responsible to come forward and return the ashes. Lafleur tells CTV News the family would offer a reward for the safe return of its contents.
