Winnipeg man warns of catalytic converter theft

A fifth person wanted in a string of catalytic converter thefts between April and June has been arrested by Winnipeg police.

Police confirmed Tuesday that 44-year-old Jay Heckert was arrested on July 20.

Investigators opened a case in May after following an uptick of calls related to catalytic converter thefts.

Between April 26 and June 8, there were 13 alleged thefts costing more than $20,000.

Last week, police announced four people between the ages of 36 and 51 were arrested and are facing theft-related charges.

They were all released on undertakings.

Heckert has been charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and two counts of mischief to property under $5,000. He was also released on an undertaking.

None of the charges have been tested in court.
