A male youth is facing an assault charge in connection to shots fired in Moncton on Thursday. New Brunswick RCMP officers responded to a report of shots fired on St. George Street around 8:08 a.m. In an email to CTV News Atlantic, the RCMP said officers were confronted with a suspect “who was armed, and fired shots towards police.” “As the situation evolved, members discharged their firearms towards the suspect,” reads the email. No officers were injured and the suspect, a male youth, was arrested after a short foot pursuit and later brought to hospital for assessment. Police say the youth appeared in court via tele-remand on Thursday and was charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon and possession of a weapon to commit an indictable offence. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 24 for virtual bail court. SiRT investigation The Serious incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating the incident and is calling for witnesses of the incident between 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. within the block of St. George, Park, Victoria, Lutz and Archibald streets.
