A barge that ran aground near North Vancouver Thursday has been “successfully refloated without incident,” according to Transport Canada. The federal agency said it has been in contact with the Canadian Coast Guard and the owner of the vessel since the incident occurred. Photos posted on social media Thursday show the barge partially capsized in shallow water near the shore. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority confirmed Thursday that the vessel had been stabilized and the material it was carrying—sand and rock dredged from the bottom of the Burrard Inlet—was loaded onto another barge. In a statement Friday, Transport Canada said “there are currently no reports of pollution or damage caused by the barge.” “Typically, incidents of this nature fall under the responsibility of the owner, and Transport Canada works with the Canadian Coast Guard and the owner to address the situation,” the agency said.
