Seven Nova Scotian athletes, leaders and teams will be celebrated for outstanding contributions to sport on Saturday at the Lighthouse Arts Centre in Halifax. Bruce Rainnie, CEO of Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame, heaps praise on this year’s group being honoured for their hard work and dedication. “We, for a small province - it’s cliché - but we punch so far above our weight,” he says. Three athletes, two teams, and two builders will be inducted in the evening. They include: Rainnie calls Logan one of the best paddling coaches in the history of the country. “This is a guy who made sport better in the province of Nova Scotia,” he told CTV Your Morning Atlantic’s Crystal Garrett. “It’s because of guys like this who, he always refused to believe because we’re small, we can’t go big. I think that’s a really important philosophy to share that night.” Logan says the induction is an honour. “It’s humbling, clearly. You get involved in sport in the beginning and it’s a passion and you just do what you do, and you’re enjoying it,” he explains. In the process of all his effort over the years, the coach says he’d never expected it would wind up in an induction like this. “It’s really a tremendous feeling and it’s quite rewarding for all the time you’ve put in,” he says. The ceremony on Saturday is sold out, another perk for the athletes and sport leaders. “I think it’s a testament to how popular this guy is and other inductees as well,” Rainnie says, gesturing to Scott.
