The current CEO of Build Nova Scotia will take over as president of the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) in the new year. The provincial government appointed David Benoit to the top role at the college. He will assume the position on Jan. 1, 2027, according to a news release from the government. “David brings to this important pan-provincial post-secondary institution an impressive record of leadership, a strong alignment with NSCC’s mandate and values, and the experience and judgement to serve with distinction as the college’s next President,” said Jackie Poirier, chair of the NSCC Board of Governors, in the release. Benoit served with the Royal Canadian Navy for 30 years, acting as commandant for the Canadian Forces Navel Engineering School and commanding officer of Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott. He retired at the rank of captain. “As Nova Scotia grows, the role of NSCC has never been more important,” Benoit said. “The college is preparing people for rewarding careers while developing the skilled workforce employers need to grow and succeed. “I am honoured to join NSCC and look forward to working with students, employees, industry and communities to build on that work and prepare Nova Scotians for the opportunities ahead.” Acting NSCC president Anna Burke will resume her role as vice president of college services and strategy when Benoit assumes the title next year.
