One week after a motorcyclist allegedly intentionally hit a man on an e-bike while driving on the Macdonald Bridge in Dartmouth, N.S., the e-biker rider is left with questions and fears. The e-biker rider did not want to show his face or reveal his name. “I don’t know who this person is. If he’s willing to do that and he finds out who I am and I don’t know who he is, what’s stopping him from coming after me and doing something even worse?” he told CTV News Atlantic. “I don’t know what his problem was but I never did nothing to him. I’m crossing in the crosswalk, (the motorcyclist) literally just turns around on the bridge and comes the wrong way in traffic. I thought he was maybe coming over to say something to me or something. And, all of a sudden he came into the bike lane, almost hit another guy who was sitting there waiting to cross one way, and he flew past him and then popped his clutch and full throttle right into me.” That night, he had just picked up his e-bike from the shop and says he was testing it out for all of 12 minutes before the incident. “I was in shock. All I knew was that I just got hit…and then this guy just takes off. I didn’t know what to think. I didn’t know what to do.” Halifax police don’t have many details about the suspect and can’t say for certain whether this incident was targeted or random. “What we know about the bike is that it was a sports bike, a black sports bike with a tan side. And all we know about the suspect right now is it’s a white male,” says Const. Mandy Paquet, Halifax Regional Police’s public information officer. “There have been several tips that have come through the non-emergency line. That should help investigators progress the file.” The e-bike rider says he sustained injuries to his back and wrist, and says repairs to his bike will cost him hundreds of dollars. Beyond a physical and financial toll, there’s an emotional one. “When I watched that video, I didn’t realize how fast he was even going. So watching that video, it brought up a lot of emotions. And even talking about right now, I’m holding back emotions. I feel like he tried to kill me for absolutely no reason.” He hopes the suspect is caught for his safety and that of other e-bike riders. “We have no protection. If we get run off the road or something like this happens, the consequences are pretty severe. I’m lucky that I’m able to walk and I’m not in the hospital or dead or something. That could have been somebody’s kid and they could have got killed or seriously injured,” he says. “I hope they have success in finding this guy because he has no place on these roads.” For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
