Crews are taking a day off from fighting a wildfire on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore due to heavy rain in the area. The wildfire in the Jacket Lake area was first reported last Wednesday. It grew to 1,447 hectares and was announced as being held on Sunday. A mandatory evacuation order put in place by Halifax Regional Municipality was also lifted. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) says the fire remains an estimated 1,447 hectares and is still being held. “Heavy rain is affecting the wildfire area today and possibly tomorrow,” it said in a Wednesday morning social media post. “To keep crews safe, wildfire suppression work is paused today but staff will continuously monitor the fire.” DNR says aircraft are not being used either because of weather conditions and they are not needed at the scene.
