Police say a man in his 20s was hospitalized Sunday evening after an altercation near downtown Barrie. Police were called to the scene of an altercation involving a group of males in the area of Simcoe Street, near Meridian Place. Witnesses tell police they saw one man holding a knife and challenging others to a fight. At one point, a garbage can was thrown, police say. Barrie Police arrested two men. One of them was a 25-year-old who police say was sent to the hospital to receive medical attention, but while in hospital, police claim the man was aggressive toward officers. He now faces charges of assault with a weapon, assaulting a police officer and failure to comply with a probation order. A 27-year-old man was also treated for minor injures. Police say he was charged with uttering threats.
