Residents in parts of Orillia can expect an increased police presence over the next few days, but not necessarily for something wrong. Provincial police and auxiliary recruits will be conducting a province-wide door-to-door engagement initiative over the next few days. This means OPP officers and recruits will be knocking on doors in select neighbourhoods in Orillia to help educate residents on various crime prevention strategies and make them aware of the OPP’s crime prevention program. The OPP says staff will be encouraging residents to take simple steps to reduce opportunities for theft. These steps include actions like locking vehicle doors, removing valuables and personal information from plain view and securing their homes. Residents will also be informed about the CAMSafe program, which allows residents who have cameras at their homes or business to voluntarily register their security cameras to assist police investigations.
