An out-of-control bon fire caused minimal damages, considering the alternative. Oro-Medonte Twp. firefighters were called Sunday at around 6 p.m. to a home near the Simoro Golf Links. A bon fire near a fancy out building and copse of trees had grown quickly out of control, said Fire Chief and director of Fire & Emergency Services, Roree Payment. “Golf course staff and the homeowner had the fire mostly extinguished,” said Payment. “Crews were able to complete extinguishment within 10 minutes.” But Payment added, unattended burning can quickly turn into an out-of-control fire, so it’s imperative to stay at the site and have proper means to extinguish a fire when necessary. “(You should) always have a valid permit to ensure you have met all conditions and to avoid any enforcement action,” he said.
