It was quite the thunder and lightning show Monday night in Simcoe County. You most likely won’t need to water your plants either, as Mother Nature drenched the region. David Brain, an observer for the Orillia climate station for Environment Canada, says Barrie was the clear winner, coming in at 66.2 mm of rain. Orillia received 43.8 mm and Shanty Bay had 54 mm. With a yellow severe thunderstorm warning and a squall watch in effect, the national weather centre alerted the public of strong winds and thunderstorms. Several booms of thunder may have kept you awake as they roared through much of Simcoe County. The weather remains unsettled with still a chance of showers Tuesday night before the sky clears overnight and makes way for a mostly sunny, blue sky on Wednesday and a high of 25 C. Sunny, warm and dry conditions are expected to stick around for the remainder of the week.
