A video shared to social media showing the arrest of a 40-year-old woman has sparked concern, with many viewers believing RCMP officers used excessive force. The video, taken Monday, shows two RCMP officers forcing Rose Georgina Angus to the ground in an effort to make an arrest. Angus is then seen with blood running down her face as the officers take her away. Angus’ daughter shared the video on social media, and says she’s organizing a peaceful protest outside of the Loon Lake RCMP detachment. CTV reached out for further comment but has not heard back. RCMP addressed the matter Monday evening. In a statement, police detailed the events leading up to the arrest, which took place on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation. According to RCMP, officers observed an adult man wanted on warrant entering a home in the community. After the police approached the home and spoke with occupants, two men wanted on warrants were arrested at the door. “When police officers are required to intervene in a given situation, it is, by nature, a complex, dynamic and constantly evolving situation, often in a highly charged atmosphere,” the statement read. “We recognize that any enforcement action can generate strong reactions and we take those concerns seriously. Following an initial review of this incident at the Saskatchewan RCMP District level, which included the viewing of the RCMP body-worn camera footage, the force used by the police officers involved in this incident was determined to be reasonable.” 30-year-old Lane Anthony Purves, from Edmonton, was wanted on warrant from Swift Current RCMP for charges including theft. 28-year-old Rayden Joe Kytwayhat from Makwa Sahgiahecan First Nation was wanted on warrant from Loon Lake RCMP for charges including domestic assaults. During this arrest, RCMP stated Angus became confrontational and punched two officers, adding Angus left down the stairs of the entrance area of the home after being told to stop moving, and was then arrested. Rose Georgina Angus is facing four criminal charges in relation to the situation, including possession of cocaine and assaulting a police officer. Body-work camera footage will be used as evidence, and will be presented during court proceedings.
