As the 2026 sailing season comes to a close, Ontario Ferries is reminding the public they have just under two weeks to set sail on an iconic Ontario ferry. The MS Chi-Cheemaun will sail until Oct. 18 before it docks onto dry land to receive its five-year inspection. The Owen Sound Transportation Company (OSTC) says it doesn’t anticipate the vessel will go back to its home at Owen Sound Harbour for winter this year. This means there will not be a Fall Repositioning Cruise this year. “OSTC recognizes that this annual cruise is a favourite tradition for many passengers and appreciates the understanding of those who look forward to taking part each fall,” the OSTC says in a release. The 2027 sailing schedule will be released in March of next year. If anyone wishes to hop aboard the vessel for one last time this year, you still can. Whether you’re travelling by motorhome, commercial vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle or on foot, the Chi-Cheemaun is able to accommodate. The MS Chi-Cheemaun is a passenger and vehicle ferry that connects several northern Ontario islands. It sails along Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, travelling between Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula and South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island.
