Barrie police say a man is facing a number of charges after attempting to resist arrest. Police say officers responded to a report of a man driving away from a home on Hickling Trail, around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. A short while later, officers found the vehicle, with the driver inside on a driveway on Cumming Drive. The driver was the only person in the car, police say. According to police, when officers spoke to him, he admitted to having consumed alcohol and exhibited “clear signs of impairment.” Police say when officers instructed him to exit the vehicle and attempted to arrest him, he resisted and attempted to strike an officer. He was ultimately arrested by police. During a follow-up search, police also found cannabis in his car. The 29-year-old from Barrie is now facing charges of operation while impaired, assault with intent to resist and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
